The 2012 season has finally been wrapped up for the Highlanders and what a season it has been. From late November through to now the squad has worked hard and enjoyed each others company.
Theres been a real buzz felt by the players from the entire Highlanders region - its a great feeling knowing the public is right in behind you. This was demonstrated with the awesome crowds turning up to every home game. Although we finished one place lower than 2011 this team has definitely grown and is on the right path for the future.
The competition is as close as it has ever been this year and the guys were right in it until the end so all bodes well for the future.
Its going to be sad saying goodbye to legend Jimmy ‘Bluey’ Cowan who has been a stalwart for the region over so many years but I’m sure he’ll go well in the cherry blossoms of Gloucester. James Haskell is heading back to England to play for Wasps - he was a great addition to the squad although the lads will be happy to have some peace and quite now he’s gone - the man could talk. We were able to send these boys off - along with Siale Piutau with a bang on the Gold Coast after the Reds game. Kade Poki even managed to pick up some scaffolding/property developing work in the process.
All in all its been an enjoyable season with a team of GC’s and 2013 looks to be even better.
